N.A.S.A.L. is pleased to present Dicho por la Piedras by Ecuadorian artist Leandro Pesantes, curated by Natalia de la Rosa.

Leandro Pesantes (Guayaquil, 1980) studied at the Instituto Tecnológico de Artes del Ecuador (ITAE) and holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad de las Artes in Guayaquil, specializing in painting and sculpture. He lives and works in Guayaquil.

His practice explores dialogues between painting and sculpture, focusing on nature, symbolism, and the esoteric vocabularies embedded in forms. Drawing from ritual aesthetics, alchemy, mysticism, and cultural syncretism, his work examines how popular and spiritual objects transform through hybrid, process-based construction.

" (...) The work of Pesantes embodies artistic production in a particular way. The images and sculptures he exhibits exceed the traditional conventions imposed by the field, since they come from a very different experience of his own, where mysticism prevails. The relationship with nature depends on an interest in esoteric references, from astrology to numerology. Pesantes has arranged a ritual journey among woods, flames and chromatic flashes. This displacement is organized under a circular and cyclical condition, which replicates the conditions that the referent of the stones has historically provided to the runes. The exchange of symbols is based on a game between the installations sustained from the materiality, as they are collected and turned into offerings, by means of an element that enhances the ritual -salt, fire-; and the paintings and drawings, on the other hand, establish a dialogue with the universe from random strokes that invoke a link and reconciliation with the non-human.
