N.A.S.A.L. is pleased to present Los 4 Ojos de la Tierra (Almighty Goddessstuff) by Ileana Moreno & Urmeer in our Mexico City space.

Los 4 Ojos de la Tierra marks the beginning of the collaboration between Ileana Moreno and Urmeer. “What is the nature of a deity?” the artists ask at the outset of a long working process that culminates in a series of sculptures. A new mythology is woven into these forms and their intricately detailed surfaces, nourished by sugary beverages and references ranging from Neon Genesis Evangelion to Mesoamerican cults centered on fertility and the regenerative nature of water.

It is no coincidence that Urmeer and Moreno question the divine in the face of a world in crisis that calls into question the survival of all its species. We have lost our ties to ancestral cults that once found in nature the expression of the magical. Religions, too, have abandoned us, more concerned with perpetuating outdated, exclusionary visions of society. What can we believe in? Which figures can help us make sense of a world we see changing?

The questions underlying these works are deeply serious, yet they are presented as elements of an open and uncanny narrative, filled with clues and invitations to the imagination. There are no answers and no lessons.

Avoiding the generic format of a press release, the texts throughout the exhibition seek to accompany viewers, helping them enter a universe created by Ileana Moreno and Urmeer in which fantasy coexists with our immediate reality—not in some distant future, but today.”
