Miguel Andrade Valdez Peruvian , b. 1979

Miguel Andrade Valdez (b. 1979) is a Lima-based artist whose practice sits at the intersection of sculpture, design and architecture. He holds a degree in Fine Arts (specializing in Painting) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

His work investigates urban landscape and vernacular monuments across Latin America, treating sculpture as an archaeology of our time and architecture as a representation of time. In recent years he has fused inspirations from modernist architecture and pre-Columbian huacas in large-scale installations and cast-in-place concrete constructions developed through his studio and design collective, Taller Tarapacá, which links heritage craft to contemporary design. His practice is research-based but insists that the investigation only takes form via artistic process and often involves collaboration, community and construction.

Recent presentations include the residency at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (2017) and exhibitions at venues such as MANA Contemporary (Jersey City) and display at the Museo Mario Testino in Lima.
